My dance journey began at the age of 7 when I joined the Sheila Grace Dance Company. I then started ballet classes when I was 14 at The Ballet Academy. I continued dancing in both schools until I left secondary school. During my time at the Sheila Grace Dance Company, I attended many dance competitions in Ireland and abroad while also taking part in many shows in Wexford Opera House.
While I attended the Ballet Academy I took ISTD ballet exams and also performed in shows in Wexford Opera House. I knew I wanted to pursue dance and become a teacher so when I left secondary school I studied dance in Colaiste Stiofain Naofa in Cork.
Their dance course was one year and I left with a QQI FETAC Level 5 qualification in Dance and was also awarded ‘Dancer of the Year’. During my time in Cork, I was also part of Cork Youth Ballet Company. Shortly after, I suffered a bad back injury requiring surgery and remained out of dance for over 18 months. I am now currently working towards my Diploma in Dance Education (DDE) teacher training with the ISTD in ballet, tap and jazz.
Alongside teaching, at Kilkenny Academy of Dance, I also teach and assist at Slaneyside School of Dancing and The Ballet Academy. I’ve also started teaching my own dance classes this year at Becky Sheil Dance.
